[별별인생] “Our rice is an excellent food ingredient that promotes health and happiness.”

Comedian Ji Sang-ryeol (53) is active in various entertainment programs with his witty remarks. He coined the catchphrase ‘Moisture in the eyes (meaning wetness and tears)’ and appeared in the entertainment programs ‘Infinite Challenge’, ‘2 Days & 1 Night’, and the dramas ‘Dae Jang Geum’ and ‘Lee San’. Recently, he appeared on NBS Korea Agricultural Broadcasting System’s ‘Have a Rice’. Day’ made the charm of rice widely known. On the 8th, I met Mr. Ji at a broadcasting studio in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.

‘Have a Rice Day’, which first aired on October 11 and ended after episode 4, featured Ji, singer KCM, cooking content creator ‘Working Yonghyeong’, and Dr. Cha Yun-hwan of food and nutrition. They developed a meal using rice and cooked and served the food to middle school students, the women’s baseball team, and citizens.

“I made over 10 types of rice dishes on the show, including rice hot dogs, seafood nurungji stew, and pig’s feet rice bowl, and they were all really delicious. “I realized once again that rice is an excellent food ingredient.”

They gathered at school at 5 a.m. to cook breakfast for middle school students, and had to cook at an outdoor food truck in the middle of summer for the girls’ baseball team, but seeing them enjoy the food made all the thoughts of how difficult it was seem to have disappeared. It is said that he realized the power of rice, which is essential for Koreans and makes people happy.

Mr. Ji, who spent his childhood in Incheon, played in the fields and lived a life close to nature. After debuting as a comedian, he wanted to study agriculture and entered the Department of Agriculture at Korea Open University. The TV programs he usually watches are NBS’s ‘Real Return to Farming Story: I am a Farmer’ and ‘Rich Farmer’s Turnaround’. When asked by a reporter if he had any intention of going into farming, he shook his head.

“Farming is not something everyone can do. You must have professional knowledge and put in sincerity. “For now, I’m trying to focus on broadcasting, which I can do well.”

Mr. Ji, who debuted as an open comedian at SBS in 1996, gained popularity in the late 1990s with ‘Klenom’ and ‘Mukchippa Gag’, which parodied the singer ‘Clone’. In the 2000s, he showed off his licorice acting in dramas such as ‘Dae Jang Geum’ and ‘Lee San’.

“I practiced a lot of skits while working as a comedian, so I had some confidence in my acting. I appeared in a few modern dramas and played the role of a medical officer in ‘Dae Jang Geum’, but I was not used to the speaking style used in historical dramas and it was quite difficult to memorize it because it was an archaic language. There was a time when I made NG 50 times while acting out a scene full of oriental medicine terminology. In the end, we just left the camera on and acted after all the staff had left the set.”

Mr. Ji did not give up and continued his acting. Director Lee Byeong-hoon, the master of historical dramas who directed Dae Jang Geum, recognized this effort and talent and cast him again in ‘Lee San.’ Even now, casting offers for movies and dramas continue to come in, but Ji has decided to focus more on the TV show she is currently appearing in.

Currently, he hosts SBS Radio’s ‘If It’s Hot, Ji Sang-ryeol’ and communicates with listeners for two hours every day. Listeners share their concerns in their lives with Mr. Ji.

“During the holidays, we often hear stories like, ‘My life is not going well, but I’m embarrassed to go to my hometown to see my parents.’ I said, ‘Your parents probably already know how you live. “I tell my aging parents, ‘There is no next holiday,’ and advise them to go to their hometown.”

Mr. Ji sent his mother, who was over 90, to me last March. He was a blunt son, but as he got older, he gained the courage to say ‘I love you’ to his mother, and he considers this to be the best thing he did in his life.

Recently, on an entertainment program, he jokingly confessed that he has a crush on an actress, and many viewers are curious about Ji’s marriage plans.

“If I meet a good person, I always want to get married. I don’t set any grand goals for the future. My motto in life is to be faithful to today. “I want to work hard on my given broadcast and remain as an adult who can buy my juniors a plate of raw fish and soju.”
