[본격 자랑글] Diet success review

[본격 자랑글] Diet success review

November 11, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor Health

I have never been skinny in my life. I reached my current height (182cm) in my first year of college, but I have been overweight and obese for most of the time since then. The lowest point was when I got my first night out in the military. I enlisted at 85 kg, but came out weighing 77 kg (I’m not bragging about the fact that I came back at 83 kg when I was discharged). On the other hand, the highest point was when I moved to Daejeon and started living at my hometown when I was 30 years old. It was a time when I devoted myself to home-cooked meals, desserts, and company dinners every day. I gained 8 kg in 8 months and reached a whopping 93 kg (ㄷㄷㄷ).

From then on, I came to my senses and started dieting. In this way, the sense of crisis that I wanted to hit 100kg became a strong driving force. Of course it wasn’t easy. There was an infinite loop of diet ⇨ yo-yo ⇨ re-diet. It was a repetition of push and push, reminiscent of the Eastern Front in World War II. In the end, after 11 years of fighting, I was able to return to 77kg. In fact, this person was also overweight by BMI standards. But I didn’t have the confidence to take it anymore, so I stopped at that point. Thinking that I would never go back to the 80kg range again, I planned to maintain it by eating in moderation and losing weight in moderation.

However, dieting was something I had to do for the rest of my life. As if laughing at my naive idea of “eating in moderation and losing in moderation”, I started gaining weight again. Just by eating two generous meals a day, I gained 2 kg. Still, it was okay up to 78 or 79 kg. The problem was 80kg. This was truly a psychological barrier for me. Although there was a 1kg difference, it was not usually a problem since the front seat was changed. To use an analogy, it is like BC changing to AD starting from the birth of Jesus. While I was going through my daily life precariously going back and forth between 79 and 80 kg, something I was worried about happened. It’s been a while since I went camping and ate as much as I wanted, and it was reflected in my weight gain, and I ended up breaking 81kg.

In the end, I decided to go on a diet again. At this point, I think dieting is my life partner. However, I decided to try this diet systematically. This is because my wife has been learning about the switch-on diet, which is popular these days. I thought it would be more effective if a couple worked together, so I started right away. However, I only know the title of the diet, but I do not know the specific mechanism. I just follow my wife’s diet and rules… (It feels like I’m being raised) Anyway, this diet is a basic 4-week course, and the key is to cut out carbohydrates, sugar, and alcohol. You should eat mainly protein and vegetables. Fasting for 24 hours in between meals is also required.

Actually, I was skeptical when I first started. I was wondering if it would be possible for a heavy sugar boy like me, who has lived his entire life as an elementary school kid, to quit drinking sugar. Still, I committed it with determination, thinking that even if it took three days, it would at least be beneficial. But surprisingly, it was worth doing. After getting into the habit of not eating for a few days, I didn’t really feel like I wanted to eat. Then I realized an important fact. The food I have always enjoyed – especially snacks and desserts – is not the result of my actual desire to eat it. I made a rule not to eat and actually didn’t eat, so I stopped eating without much difficulty. In short, it seems to be more of a habit programmed into the body rather than an appetite.

The effect was very good. My weight dropped from 81kg to 75.6kg in 4 weeks. In other words, for the first time since becoming an adult, I have reached a “normal” weight based on BMI. This was truly a page of history. My overweight-obesity era of well over 20 years is finally over. I was so moved that I even took a screenshot. Like this⇩

I confess that the reason I diet is for my clothes rather than my health. Of course, it’s not that I have a great sense of fashion or that I like clothes. Still, I try to dress neatly. Shouldn’t it be at a level that doesn’t embarrass my wife or daughter? The style I often wear is commonly referred to as business casual. Like other clothes, this style has to dry out before it gets brittle. If you gain weight, it’s worse than not wearing anything.

I have a shirt that I bought overseas a few years ago. It’s from my favorite brand. However, the size was different from the domestic standard, so I bought it smaller than my actual size (…). It happened to become a reference point for weight management. If you gain even a little weight, you can’t wear it. This time I went on a diet and tried it on. Then this shirt finally started to show signs of wear. Very satisfied. I need to try the boyfriend look before fall is completely over.
