(Paris = Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Kyung-yoon = Para-badminton men’s doubles Jeong Jae-gun (47, WH1, Ulsan Jung-gu Office) and Yoo Su-young (21, WH2, Korea Employment Promotion Agency for the Disabled) won all their matches in the group preliminary round of the 2024 Paris Paralympics and advanced to the semifinals in first place.

On the 31st (Korean time), in the third match of Group A of the men’s doubles sport class WH1-2 preliminary round of badminton at the Paris Paralympic Games held at the Porte de la Chapelle in Paris, France, the Jeong Jae-gun-Yu Su-yeong pair defeated the Takumi Matsumoto-Osamu Nagashima (Japan) pair with a set score of 2-0 (21-16 21-13).

The two players secured bronze medals by winning the first and second group matches and the final match.

Paralympic badminton does not have a 3rd-4th place match, but awards bronze medals to all.

Yoo Su-young, whom we met at the joint press area after the game, said, “I achieved my first goal,” and “There is a high possibility that we will meet China, the strongest team, in the finals, so I will try to cause an upset.”

Jeong Jae-gun said, “We took first place in the group and avoided China in the semifinals for now,” and added, “We will play the semifinals with confidence no matter which team we face.”

The pair of Choi Jeong-man (45, WH1) and Kim Jeong-jun (46, WH2, both from Daegu Urban Development Corporation), who competed in the same event, failed to advance to the semifinals with 1 win and 2 losses.
