06 Private universities closed for not complying with regulations
The General Directorate of Higher Education (DGES) has moved forward, with the support of the Republican police and bailiff’s office, to suspend six private universities (06).
For non-compliance with regulations, seals were placed on the doors of six (06) Private Higher Education Institutions (EPES) in Benin. These are the Institute for Advanced Communications (ISCOM); African University Foundation of Benin; Poma University; A triumphant university; EDEXEL and ELTC.
The Directorate General of Higher Education (DGES) of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research closed the six universities, opened courses without authorization or created English-language departments without prior approval from the Ministry.
Investigations opened across the entire national territory have revealed that some EPES have not presented candidates for the national Bachelor and Master exams since 2017. This is the case of ELTC in Igolo, which is willing to transfer its learners to other universities in Benin, Togo and Ghana.
It was also noted that some universities have insufficient administrative staff and infrastructure that does not meet minimum operating standards.
