Death is a painful, but sometimes necessary, experience that’s unfortunately all too common in a battle shonen series like Dragon Ball. Dragon Ball is never an anime that’s been especially exploitative when it comes too death, yet it’s still something that’s inevitable for characters who are constantly fighting for the planet’s fate. A major asset of the anime’s titular Dragon Balls is that they can bring people back to life virtually whenever they wish.
This is rather convenient considering most of Dragon Ball‘s cast have perished on multiple occasions at this point.Death’s prevalence in Dragon Ball still doesn’t make its appearances any easier though. While there are some story arcs that manage to completely avoid any major casualties, other sagas feature apocalyptic body counts.

Beyond these central deaths, the Namek saga also features the Grand Elder Guru’s expiration and the murder of dozens of Namekians who stand in the way of Frieza and Vegeta’s efforts to acquire the Dragon Bal

The saga’s endgame features even more deaths as King Piccolo’s Dark Vassals all become collateral damage. If all this wasn’t enough,King Piccolo also takes out hundreds,if not thousands of soldiers when he flexes his strength against King Furry’s army. King Piccolo becomes the world’s leader by brute force, which means heavy losses for the first time in the franchise.
