A case has been filed against former army chief General (retd) Aziz Ahmed and five people including his two brothers for demanding extortion of Tk 100 crore.
Salim Pradhan, chairman of Japan-Bangladesh Security Printing and Papers Limited, filed this case in Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ali Haider court on Thursday.
Among the other accused are Aziz Ahmed’s brothers, Tofail Ahmed Joseph and Haris Ahmed alias Haris Hasan, former Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed and former Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-3) captain Shafi Ullah Bulbul.
After the hearing, the court accepted the complainant’s statement and directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate the matter and submit a report.
The plaintiff Salim confirmed the main case.
The complainant in the case alleged that on the orders of Joseph, Haris, Aziz and Benazir, former RAB captain Shafi along with a group of RAB members went to his (complainant) office in Gulshan at around 7 pm on September 7, 2019 and demanded and a Range Rover Car as a gift.
They also threatened the complainant with dire consequences if the demand is not met.
Later on 24 September that year, at around 9 pm, RAB officer Shafi again went to the complainant’s office in Gulshan and told him that Haris and Joseph wanted to talk to you.
But the complainant refused to speak to them. Shafi later threatened to fire them.
Then on 30 September at around 1.30 pm, RAB officer Shafi, with the help of some other RAB members, on the instructions of Joseph, Haris, Aziz and Benazir dropped the complainant off Thai Airways at Hazrat Shahjalal Airport on the eve of his departure to Thailand.
They then took the complainant to the RAB headquarters in Uttara. The businessman tortured the plaintiff mentally and physically.
They again demanded a car and 100 crore rupees. As the plaintiff again refused to pay for the car and the money, he was framed and arrested on false charges.
The complainant must spend four years in prison.
