Compiègne, ⁤France ‌- The spirit of community and⁣ support for cancer patients was on full display Friday as the Sport Santé Oasis association presented‌ a ​check for $12,604 to the Ligue contre le cancer de l’Oise. The funds were raised thru the wildly‍ successful Compiègne en Rose run, ‌which drew⁣ 1,500 participants in October.

Dr. ⁣Elisabeth Carola,president of the Ligue contre⁣ le cancer de ⁤l’oise,highlighted the growing need for extensive cancer care,stating,”There’s an increasing⁣ need ‍to ⁢bridge the gap between treatment,hospitalization,follow-up care,physical rehabilitation,and sports.”

The ceremony ⁣took place at Compiègne City Hall, with Mayor Philippe Marini praising the growth of sport and health initiatives​ in the community. ⁣”Caring for both the body and mind are⁣ complementary dimensions,” he noted.

A New ‍Vision for‌ Health and Wellness

Sport‌ Santé Oasis,led⁤ by president Kamel Lejri and vice-president Miloud Zouaoui,announced plans for a new Maison Sport Santé (Sports and​ Health ‍House).This aspiring ‍project, supported by philanthropy, aims to provide a dedicated space for promoting physical and mental ⁣well-being.Lejri, a successful entrepreneur ⁢who owns several McDonald’s restaurants ‍in the Oise region, expressed his desire to⁤ give back to the community. ⁢”I’ve been blessed in my professional life,” he shared. “Now,⁣ I want to contribute to the well-being of others.”

Spearheaded by ⁣Kamel Lejri, a former​ fast-food executive who pivoted his career towards healthcare, the project aims to provide⁤ a holistic‍ approach ‌to wellness. “Initially,I had a vision for a‍ home for parents of children with cancer,” Lejri explained.”But it proved complex. Then Miloud [Zouaoui, president of the Asptt Compiègne athletics club and municipal councilor for sports and health] ⁤ introduced me to the concept of a ‘Sport Health House’.”

The facility, ‌slated to open in early 2025, will be located near​ the hospital in the former Bureau 60 building.It⁤ will house a team of medical professionals, including⁤ doctors, nutritionists, physiotherapists, ⁢and osteopaths, ​alongside instructors specializing in adapted physical activity.

“One side will offer traditional medical care,⁢ while the other‍ will focus on ⁢tailored physical ⁤activity,” Zouaoui elaborated. “The goal is‍ to treat illnesses through sport, emphasizing both treatment and prevention.”

The Sport Health ‌House will also feature a swimming pool and a post-hospitalization ⁣hotel,‌ catering to the estimated 6,000 to 8,000 individuals in the Compiègne area living with chronic​ conditions.

The project goes beyond traditional medical care, recognizing the crucial role of lifestyle factors in overall health.

“We’ve made significant ⁤strides⁢ in treatment over ​the ‌past 30 years,” said Dr. Elisabeth Carola, an oncologist ⁤specializing⁤ in supportive care. “But medication isn’t the only answer.
