In 2009, one of the feats in the history of Spanish football occurred. Alcorcon, then in the third division, stunned the football world by defeating star-studded Real Madrid 4-0.

The match took place on October 27, 2009, and was the first match of the last 32 of the Copa del Rey, in which Alcorcón created a great chapter in the history of Spanish football.

The Alfarero team, coached by Juan Antonio Anquera, welcomed Real Madrid. Until the first whistle blew, no one expected the white team to suffer such a devastating humiliation as they left Santo Domingo.

A dark night for Madrid ended with an astonishing 4-0 defeat against a second-tier team. Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos, Xabi Alonso, Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo were absent from the match and were rested as it was expected to be an easy match. However, other star players took to the pitch such as Raul Gonzalez, Gutti, Karim Benzema, Marcelo and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

A goal from Borja Perez (he opened and closed the scoring), an own goal from Arbeloa and a goal from Madrid academy product Ernesto Gomez marked the beginning of the end for Real Madrid’s management. Ta. This defeat marked the beginning of a disappointing season, as they were eliminated in the last 16 of the Champions League by Olympique Lyonnais and finished runners-up in La Liga, three points behind Barcelona.

The players on the visiting team were in a state of disbelief. Pellegrini said in the post-match press conference: “We feel a lot of shame as we leave Alcorcón. We hope the fans will forgive us. There is no reason or explanation for what happened today. It’s embarrassing. ” he said. Raul, the team captain, also struggled to understand the results. “This is a very heavy blow. Nights like this are unforgettable and cannot be explained.”
