Softball Season to Commence May 18

The Coors Light ‍softball league is gearing up for​ its season opener on May 18,‌ with 16 teams ​ready ‍to take the ​field at​ the rampart⁢ stadium.

Mixed, Male, ‌and Female Divisions

Sponsored by​ East Coors Light/Lac ⁣convenience store,⁢ the league‍ features three divisions.A mixed⁤ division comprises eight teams, while the male and female divisions each have four teams. The female division marks its ⁤return this year after a brief ‍hiatus.

Sylvain Caron,‍ president of the league, noted the‌ sustained interest ⁢in the female division. “For the past 18 months, there has been increased demand⁢ to reinstate​ this division,” Caron said. “With four solid teams,‌ we are ⁢confident in its sustainability.”

Family-Kind Competition

The mixed division offers a unique​ appeal, fostering ⁢a family-oriented and accessible environment.”It’s ‍the most accessible and friendly division,” Caron stated.”We often see couples registering and playing‌ on the same⁢ team. Corporate challenges also contribute to the division’s popularity.”

Team Rosters Revealed

The team ⁢compositions were revealed at an event held at‌ the ⁤Boves Salon.

Growth Across Regions

While 16 ‍teams represent the ⁤Matanie section, the league boasts a total of 40 teams across Bas-Saint-Laurent and the Gaspésie regions, with teams⁢ in Mont-Joli, sayabec, Cap-chat, and Lac-au-Saumon, among others.

From⁤ humble Beginnings to Regional Success

caron reflected‍ on ‌the league’s ‌growth since its inception in 2003. “If you had asked me 20 years ago about reaching 40 teams,I would have said it was unachievable,” Caron said. “We are incredibly proud⁤ of this achievement, growing from four teams to this number, with ⁣recognized expertise and even the launch of⁣ a new sport, Wiffle⁣ Ball.”
