A new keyboard from Serene Industries, the Icebreaker, is making waves with its unique design and hefty price tag. crafted from a single block of aluminum and shaped by CNC machining, the Icebreaker is a statement piece for keyboard enthusiasts.
The company, founded by Denis Agarkov, is taking pre-orders for the keyboard, which starts at $1,500 for the wired version. Those wanting the Bluetooth wireless option or a wired version with magnetic hall effect switches will have to shell out $1,600 – a price point that rivals a new MacBook Pro M4 14-inch.
“I wanted to create a keyboard that defied current trends and embraced a more distinctive, challenging design,” Agarkov said when the Icebreaker was first announced in January 2024.
The IcebreakerS design, Agarkov revealed, draws inspiration from New York City’s iconic flatiron Building.
The keyboard boasts swappable keys, customizable RGB lighting, and comes in clear or black finishes. It features a 65% layout and measures 450 x 44 x 24mm.While the weight hasn’t been disclosed, Serene Industries emphasizes the Icebreaker’s premium features. These include an integrated EC11 rotary dial, double silicone dampeners to minimize noise and vibration, and a 4,000 mAh battery promising up to three months of use.
Adding to its unique appeal are “micro-perforations” on each keycap, allowing the LED backlighting to shine through, and 1/4-20 inch mounting points – three on the USB-C port surface and four on the base – for attaching accessories like tripod mounts or monitor arms.
