An 18-year-old man was arrested in downtown St. Petersburg, Florida, following a knife attack on two women outside a U.S. Postal Service facility on Wednesday night.
According to the St. Petersburg Police Department, the suspect, identified as Rodrigo Romero, approached the two women as they were walking in front of the post office at 76 4th Street North and attacked them with a table knife shortly after 10:30 p.m.
One woman sustained a non-life-threatening injury to her head, while the second victim was not injured. Police confirmed that the victims and the suspect did not know each other prior to the incident.
Witnesses in the area intervened and detained Romero until law enforcement arrived. Officers took him into custody at the scene.
Romero was charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault. The St. Petersburg Police Department stated that the investigation is ongoing, and further details about the motive or how the suspect obtained the knife have not been released.
