The Underground Cinema at 180 Studios in London is launching Sound & Vision, a curated season of music-oriented films, documentaries, and live performances. Running from April 10 until June 4, 2026, the program follows a month-long theatrical residency of Kahlil Joseph’s BLKNWS: Terms & Conditions.

The season is designed to explore the artists, movements, and moments that have shaped music culture. The programming features a rotating weekly schedule of feature-length films, spanning from cult classics and award-winning documentaries to intimate recordings of legendary live shows.

Film Programming and Schedule

The season begins on April 10 with Getting It Back: The Story of Cymande, directed by Tim Mackenzie-Smith in 2022. The film documents the history of the UK’s premier jazz-funk band, known for their rhythms and message of peace. This title screens from April 10 through April 16.

From April 17 to April 23, the cinema will screen Finding Fela, a 2014 documentary by Alex Gibney. The film examines the life, music, and political activism of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti.

The program continues from April 24 to April 30 with Fred again.. – secret life at the coliseum. Directed by LOOSE and released in 2024, the film captures an ambient live set performed by Fred again.. For 100 fans at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on June 11, 2024.

From May 1 to May 7, the cinema will show Keyboard Fantasies, a 2019 film by Posy Dixon. The documentary follows transgender musician Beverly Glenn-Copeland as he embarks on his first international tour at age 74 after years of isolation.

The iconic 1990 documentary Paris Is Burning, directed by Jennie Livingston, will screen from May 8 to May 14. The Sundance-winning film chronicles the drag ball culture of New York City during the mid-to-late 1980s.

From May 15 to May 21, the venue will present Bowie: The Final Act, a 2025 film by Jonathan Stiasny. The project charts the final creative decade of David Bowie, marking ten years since the release of his last album.

The season’s penultimate selection, Sisters with Transistors, screens from May 22 to May 28. Directed by Lisa Rovner in 2020, the film highlights female electronic music pioneers such as Suzanne Ciani, Laurie Anderson, and Delia Derbyshire.

The season concludes from May 29 to June 4 with Ryuichi Sakamoto: Coda. The 2017 documentary by Stephen Nomura Schible provides an intimate look at the legendary Japanese composer’s career and his creation of the album async following a cancer diagnosis.

Complementary Exhibition

Alongside the cinematic screenings, an adjacent exhibition space will host a rotating program of seminal music videos directed by established movie directors. This installation bridges the gap between music and cinema by showcasing high-profile visual works.
