2024 CIAA Volleyball Championship Preview

The 2024 CIAA Volleyball season has reached its exciting postseason stage. Eight teams will compete in the championship quarterfinals on Tuesday, November 16, starting at 6:00 P.M. Each match will take place on the home court of the higher seed. The winning teams will move on to the semifinals in Bowie, Maryland, on Friday, November 23.

Quarterfinal Matches

  1. Shaw (1S) vs. Bowie State (4N)
    Shaw, the reigning champions, hold a strong 27-4 record, including 14-1 in the conference. Bowie State improved this season and is in the postseason for the first time since 2019. Shaw defeated Bowie State earlier this season with a 3-1 win.

  2. Virginia State (1N) vs. Livingstone (4S)
    Virginia State made a remarkable turnaround this year, going from a 10-16 record to 15-7, winning the northern division. Livingstone reached the postseason for the first time since 2015. Earlier in the season, Virginia State won against Livingstone in straight sets.

  3. Fayetteville State (2S) vs. Elizabeth City State (3N)
    Fayetteville State performed well, winning 16 out of 20 matches. They claimed the second spot in the southern division. Elizabeth City State returns to the postseason after losing in last year’s championship. Fayetteville State previously defeated ECSU 3-0.

  4. Bluefield State (2N) vs. Winston-Salem State (3S)
    Bluefield State and Winston-Salem State both posted 15-17 and 14 wins respectively this season. Their earlier match this season ended in a thrilling five-set victory for Bluefield State.
