2024 Dallas Cowboys Struggle: Five-Game Losing Streak Sparks Concerns for McCarthy and Team
Dallas Cowboys Struggle in 2024 Season
The Dallas Cowboys’ 2024 season has turned into a challenge. After three straight 12-win seasons from 2021 to 2023, the team now holds a disappointing 3-7 record. They faced a heavy defeat against the Houston Texans, losing 34-10 on “Monday Night Football.” This loss marks their fifth consecutive defeat, the longest streak since 2015.
With quarterback Dak Prescott on injured reserve following hamstring surgery, the team is seeing results reminiscent of the 2020 season when Prescott suffered a broken ankle. Moreover, the Cowboys are currently on a six-game home losing streak, setting an unwanted NFL record by trailing by at least 20 points in these games.
Head coach Mike McCarthy expressed frustration after the Texans game. He highlighted the need for improvement in execution and detail. “We have a lot of moving parts going on, and we just have to be cleaner and more detailed in certain spots,” he said. The team managed to fight back from a 14-0 deficit, closing the gap to seven points twice in the first half. However, the offense, led by Cooper Rush, faltered in the second half.
Despite the struggles, McCarthy noted that effort is not lacking among the players. He and his coaching staff are in the final year of their contracts, facing uncertainty if they cannot turn the season around. Dallas owner Jerry Jones ruled out firing McCarthy mid-season, reflecting on past decisions that he regretted.
CeeDee Lamb, an All-Pro wide receiver, supported McCarthy’s leadership, stating, “We got to go out there and play hard.” He emphasized the need for unity in the locker room, despite his own struggles with injuries.
Jones reinforced his faith in the team’s effort, saying he does not worry about their commitment. McCarthy knows winning is vital for his future and that of his staff. He stated, “We got to fight, scratch, and claw. We’ve got to do everything we can to win the next game.”
The Cowboys will face the Washington Commanders in Week 12. The Commanders, sitting at 7-4, present a tough challenge as Dallas seeks to end its losing streak.
