2024 General Election: Key Candidates Elected to Ireland’s 34th Dáil
The 2024 General Election has so far filled 36 out of 174 seats in the 34th Dáil.
Seán Ó Fearghaíl from Fianna Fáil was re-elected as Ceann Comhairle in Kildare South. This leaves 173 seats available for other candidates.
Below is a list of candidates who won seats on the first day of counting, presented in order of their election.
Jennifer Carroll MacNeill
Jennifer Carroll MacNeill from Fine Gael was the first candidate elected, topping the poll in Dún Laoghaire.
She previously served on Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and became Minister of State for EU Affairs and Defence.
Patrick O’Donovan

Patrick O’Donovan from Fine Gael was elected in Limerick County. He has held various junior ministerial roles and is now Minister for Further and Higher Education.
David Cullinane

David Cullinane from Sinn Féin retained his seat, having been first elected in 2016 after multiple attempts from 2002 to 2011.
Verona Murphy

Independently elected in 2020, Verona Murphy previously ran for Fine Gael and helped form a Wexford Independent Alliance.
Jack Chambers

Jack Chambers returned to the Dáil after being the youngest member in 2016. He now serves as Minister for Finance.
Paul Donnelly

Paul Donnelly secured a seat for Sinn Féin in his third general election.
Eoin Ó Broin
