“Honor of Kings” brings together many heroes, “Fox Spirit Matchmaker” is playful and cute, and “Grave Robbers’ Chronicles Family” is mysterious and unpredictable… At 8 pm on August 30, the Zhengxingyuan Road section of Dongba Street, Lizhou District, Guangyuan City was crowded with people, and the 2024 Guangyuan Girls’ Festival Chinese Comics Cosplay Theme Tour kicked off jubilantly.
It is understood that Guangyuan’s animation theme tour started in 2014. After nearly 10 years of development, the first Guangyuan Animation Exhibition in 2015 attracted 1,600 participants. The third Guangyuan Animation Exhibition in 2019 attracted more than 7,000 exhibitors and more than 30 exhibitors. It has long-term strategic cooperation with major events and exhibitions such as the World Cosplay Summit, China Cosplay-Top List, China Western Animation Culture Festival, and Tokyo Game Show. At the same time, Guangyuan is also trying to use the core content of animation as a breakthrough to enable Guangyuan to develop its own new model of combining animation, culture and tourism industries. At present, Guangyuan has successfully created animation IP images such as Wu Zetian and the giant panda. More animations of Shudao culture will be created in the future, allowing animation to be deeply integrated with Guangyuan’s cultural tourism and continue to promote the brand of “Shudao Animation Exhibition”.
“For this parade, we invited 300 cosplayers to play the classic characters of their favorite Chinese comics and domestic games. We also invited 50 motorcycle riders from the motorcycle club to form nine teams, including the motorcycle team, the e-sports game Honor of Kings cosplay, the Fox Spirit Matchmaker cosplay, the Heaven Official’s Blessing cosplay, the Monkey King: Hero is Back cosplay, the Nezha cosplay, the AOTU World cosplay, the Genshin Impact cosplay, and the Inhumans cosplay.” Zhu Xuan, the person in charge of the event organizer, introduced that this Chinese comics cosplay theme tour was a bold and innovative attempt, using two simultaneous performance lines, breaking through the conventional parade route layout and single-point performance mode, so that there are surprises and excitement everywhere, spreading a joyful atmosphere throughout the city.
The wonderful and creative parade programs and the joyful and energetic parade teams instantly turned the scene into a sea of joy. “I started to prepare for the makeup very early today. It’s my first time to participate in the parade in my hometown. I’m very excited. The audiences are very enthusiastic and I have made many new friends with the same interests. I hope Guangyuan can hold more cosplay-related theme activities in the future.” said a cosplayer.
Along the streets, many citizens kept snapping away with their phones. “The performance was very lively! The traditional Chinese costumes were beautiful, and there were many familiar characters. They were very friendly. Especially Wu Zetian, who was at the front of the team of the domestic game King of Glory, is the goddess in the hearts of many of our players.” Speaking of the cosplayers who left a deep impression, citizen Jia Yifan said.
