2024 Venture Capital Shake-Up: Notable VC Moves and New Fund Launches

2024 Venture Capital Shake-Up: Notable VC Moves and New Fund Launches

November 18, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor Tech

In 2024, many venture capitalists (VCs) have changed firms or started their own funds. This is unusual, as VCs typically stay at their firms for long periods, especially at the partner level.

VC funds often last for 10 years, encouraging partners to remain throughout the life of the fund. If a key partner leaves, limited partners (LPs) may withdraw their investments. Many partners also invest their own money, which further motivates them to stay.

However, in 2024, investor shifts have become notable. Some have returned to previous employers, others have launched their own firms, or have taken breaks from investing. Significant hires have also occurred.
