CONCORD, N.C. — ross Chastain secured his first Coca-Cola 600 victory at Charlotte Motor Speedway, passing William byron with just six laps remaining. Starting from the rear of the field after a practice crash, Chastain navigated through the pack to claim his first win of 2025 and the sixth of his NASCAR Cup Series career.
Chastain’s path to victory in NASCAR’s longest race wasn’t easy.A tire issue during Saturday’s practice forced him to start in 40th place. However, he strategically used the race’s distance to his advantage, steadily advancing through the field. By the final stage, Chastain found himself contending for the lead, first overtaking Denny Hamlin for second before setting his sights on byron, who had dominated much of the race, leading 283 laps.
Hamlin’s late pit stop due to low fuel created an chance for Chastain. As Byron approached to lap hamlin, Chastain seized the moment, diving to the inside in Turn 1 and sliding up in front of Byron to complete the decisive pass.
