The 2025 ESPYS, presented by Capital One, are set to air July 16, and fans can now cast their votes to determine who takes home the prestigious awards. The annual event celebrates the best athletes and teams in sports.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder, fresh off an NBA championship and MVP honors, is nominated in two major categories: Best Athlete in Men’s Sports and Best NBA Player. The Thunder are also up for Best Team after their Game 7 victory against the Indiana Pacers.
Several athletes who excelled at the Paris Olympics and Paralympics also received nominations. Simone Biles and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone are contenders for Best Athlete in Women’s Sports. Ilona Maher and Ezra Frech are nominated for Best Breakthrough Athlete and Best Athlete with a Disability, respectively.
A’ja Wilson, who won Best Athlete in Women’s Sports and Best WNBA player in 2024, is again a frontrunner in both categories. Saquon Barkley earned nominations in three categories: Best Athlete in Men’s Sports, best Play, and Best NFL Player. Buffalo bills quarterback Josh Allen joins Barkley as the only other NFL player nominated for both Best NFL Player and Best Athlete in Men’s Sports.
