Record-Breaking Year for Unclaimed Property
Iowa State Treasurer roby Smith announced that the Great Iowa Treasure Hunt program returned a record $33.6 million in unclaimed property too individuals and businesses in 2025. This surpasses the previous annual record of $30.9 million set in 2024 by over $2.7 million, marking the highest total in the program’s history.
The funds were distributed through 53,226 accomplished claims to current and former Iowa residents. In November, the program also achieved a separate record for the value of properties turned over to the state.
Millions Still Waiting to Be Claimed
Despite the record payouts, more than $648 million in unclaimed property remains available for eligible owners, according to a news release from the Iowa State Treasurer’s office.Iowans are encouraged to regularly search the Great Iowa Treasure Hunt website to see if they have unclaimed funds.
