The Spurs possess a wealth of assets, including two lottery picks (Nos. 2 and 14) and multiple future first-round picks, giving them flexibility to acquire an All-Star-caliber player or make strategic moves in the NBA draft.
General Manager Brian Wright emphasized the team’s commitment to sustainable growth after drafting Stephon Castle last year. Though, with the Spurs coming off a 34-48 season, the front office is considering whether to accelerate their timeline by making a critically important trade.
While San Antonio has fielded offers for the No. 2 pick and potential availability of stars like Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kevin Durant, the Spurs are proceeding cautiously. Sources indicate that discussions regarding Antetokounmpo have been minimal, and the asking price for Durant from Phoenix might be too high.
Still, durant could be an option. Acquiring the veteran wing might involve trading the No. 14 pick plus devin Vassell or Keldon Johnson and Harrison Barnes.
