Aldrich potgieter and Kevin Roy fired matching 10-under 62s in the opening round of the 2025 Rocket classic at Detroit Golf Club, tying the course record.The leaders capitalized on ideal conditions, with afternoon thunderstorms holding off and minimal wind on the donald ross-designed course.
Min Woo Lee is one stroke back after carding a 63 in the morning. Mark Hubbard and Max Greyserman also matched LeeS score later in the day.
Roy credited a productive practise session for his strong start. “I feel like I’ve been playing pretty well the last few weeks. I had a good finish up in Canada,” roy said. “I came out, had a good practice session and kind of had the same feels that I had in Canada.”
Potgieter began his round with six birdies and an eagle in the first 10 holes, while Roy finished strong with an eagle and a birdie. Both golfers are looking to improve their FedEx Cup standings as the PGA Tour season nears its end. Potgieter is currently No. 73, and Roy is No. 100.
“That’s probably the biggest goal this year, to make the playoffs, secure the card and then come back next year,” Potgieter said.
Wyndham Clark, Patrick Cantlay, Ben Griffin and PGA Tour rookie Luke clanton are also in contention after opening with 66s. Last week’s winner, Keegan Bradley, shot a 68, while his playing partner Collin Morikawa posted a 69.
