2025 Stanford SIEPR Summer Economic Institute: Exploring Big Issues in the U.S. Economy
The 38th annual Stanford SIEPR Summer Economic Institute for Teachers will occur from July 21 – 25, 2025. This program is free and lasts one week. It is organized by Professors Ran Abramitzky, John Shoven, and Gavin Wright. It is open to high school and community college teachers in economics and social science.
The main theme for this year is “Big Issues Facing the U.S. Economy.” Organizers will give presentations on several topics. They will explore the socioeconomic origins of the U.S. educational elite over the past century, the federal deficit and debt, and a comparative study of California and Texas.
Other presenters will discuss tariffs and U.S. trade policy, common personal finance mistakes, antitrust enforcement, and American health care. They will also cover gender roles, household roles, and careers in organizations.
Edwin Dorsey, the author of The Bear Cave newsletter, will speak about uncovering corporate misconduct. Additionally, John Etchemendy, former Stanford Provost and co-director of Stanford HAI, will answer the question, “Is Science Broken?”
This institute offers an opportunity for educators to deepen their understanding of key economic issues and improve their teaching methods. Participants can expect to gain valuable insights and engage in meaningful discussions.
