The national Gallery ⁤Prague is celebrating 230 years since its founding, or rather,⁤ since the establishment of the Society of Patriotic Friends of Art, one of its predecessors. The anniversary ‌will be commemorated wiht an exhibition at the Veletržní Palác.

However, the NGP⁣ has only a few major exhibitions planned. The main project will be Anna Jagellonská (1503-1547) at the Valdštejnská jízdárna. It is being prepared for the 500th anniversary⁣ of the accession of the Habsburg dynasty to the Czech throne and the emergence of the Habsburg monarchy in Central Europe. (Anna, as heir to the‍ Czech crown, married Ferdinand I of Habsburg, bringing the Habsburgs to ⁣the ⁤Czech throne – editor’s note.)

The exhibition ‍will feature works by leading ⁤artists of the first half of the 16th century, such‍ as Lucas Cranach, Conrad Meit, Albrecht Dürer, Titian, and others. It will also present the architectural change of Prague Castle, which was one of the main residences of Queen Anna at the time.

The National Gallery Prague ‌is also expected to participate in the Czech participation at the Venice Biennale of Art.

The Gallery of the Capital City of Prague (GHMP) is preparing with NGP a review of the works⁤ of the painter of the romanticism and Realism periods, Jaroslav Čermák (1830-1878), who ⁤connected the Czech⁤ experience with the international art world of the mid-19th century. He exhibited at the Paris Salons, ⁣won awards in Belgium and⁣ France, and his paintings ended up in‍ collections throughout Europe.in the House at the Stone Bell, GHMP ⁢will open in June the exhibition Headless Horseman and Liberalism of the ‌90s. It will recall the group ⁤Headless Horseman, founded in 1996 by four students of the Academy of fine Arts: Josef Bolf, Ján⁣ Mančuška, Jan Šerých and ⁤Tomáš Vaněk, and which became famous for ⁤its overview and humorous parody of artistic conventions.
