Millions in Turkey to Observe First Fast of Ramadan 2026 This Week
The Directorate of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) has published the 2026 imsak calendar for all 81 provinces of Turkey. Millions across the country will observe the first sahur, the pre-dawn meal, in the early hours of Thursday, February 19th, as they prepare for the first fast of Ramadan. Many are already researching the exact time of this first sahur.
According to Diyanet’s published schedule, the first day of Ramadan will begin on February 18th, 2026. The imsak, or fasting start time, varies slightly depending on location. Detailed schedules for Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Antalya, and Bursa, as well as all other provinces, are available.
The timing of the first sahur is of particular interest this year, as it marks the beginning of the holy month. The Diyanet’s calendar provides precise timings for both sahur and iftar – the fast-breaking meal – throughout the month of Ramadan.
The IslamicFinder website, utilizing the Islamic Society of North America calculation method (Fajr 15.0 degrees, Isha 15.0 degrees), provides prayer times for Makkah, including the timings for Fajr, Sunrise, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha. For January 2026, Fajr consistently begins around 5:38 AM to 5:41 AM, while Isha falls between 7:20 PM and 7:40 PM. These times will shift throughout the month.
The Diyanet Center of America (DCA) is also preparing for Ramadan, offering childcare during prayer times, though unsupervised children will not be permitted in prayer areas. The DCA encourages youth aged eight and above to participate in Isha prayers.
Several mobile applications, such as “Prayer Times” (available on both Google Play and the Apple App Store), offer comprehensive tools for tracking worship during Ramadan. These apps provide Diyanet-compatible adhan times, access to the Holy Quran, Zakat calculation features, a Qibla direction finder, and advanced Khatam tracking. The “Prayer Times” app also includes a widget for viewing prayer times directly on a phone’s home screen and a countdown timer for Iftar and Suhoor during Ramadan.
The imsak calendar is a practical resource for Muslims observing Ramadan, providing a reliable timetable for daily fasting, and prayer. The availability of both official schedules from Diyanet and convenient mobile applications ensures that individuals can accurately observe the timings of Ramadan throughout Turkey and beyond.
