Orange County high school swimmers and divers continued to post strong performances through mid-April 2026, with several athletes meeting or exceeding established county qualifying standards in individual and relay events. According to the latest compiled marks released through April 19, 2026, multiple swimmers from schools across Irvine, Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley and Rancho Santa Margarita recorded times that placed them among the top performers in the region for the 2025-2026 season.
In the boys’ 200-yard medley relay, the Orange County qualifying standard remained at 1:38.50. Teams from Mater Dei High School and Edison High School were among those approaching the threshold, with relay squads posting times in the 1:39 range during dual meets and invitationals in March and early April. No team had officially broken the standard by the April 19 reporting date, but several were within half a second, indicating strong potential for qualification ahead of the CIF Southern Section playoffs.
Individually, standout performances emerged in the 100-yard butterfly and 500-yard freestyle. A swimmer from University High School in Irvine recorded a time of 49.82 in the 100-yard butterfly on April 12 at the Irvine Valley College Invitational, just shy of the county standard of 49.50. Another athlete from Fountain Valley High School posted a 500-yard freestyle time of 4:42.10 on April 5, nearing the 4:40.00 benchmark. Both performances were confirmed through official meet results posted by the Orange County Sports Information Service.
On the diving side, a junior from Huntington Beach High School achieved a score of 485.60 on the 1-meter springboard during a tri-meet against Edison and Marina High Schools on April 8. The score exceeded the Orange County standard of 475.00 for the event, marking one of the few individual diving marks to surpass the county benchmark through mid-April. The athlete’s coach confirmed the score was achieved with consistent form across all five voluntary and three optional dives, noting improved takeoff and entry mechanics compared to the previous season.
These marks are compiled weekly by the Orange County Sports Information Service and used to track athlete progress toward qualification for the CIF Southern Section Championships, scheduled for May 2026 at the Riverside Aquatics Complex. Coaches and athletic directors across the county use the weekly updates to assess relay eligibility, individual entry limits, and team positioning ahead of the postseason.
As of April 19, 2026, no new county records had been set in boys’ swimming or diving, but the concentration of near-standard performances suggested a competitive field forming for the upcoming championship season. Programs in Irvine and Huntington Beach reported increased participation in off-season training, with several athletes citing goal-setting around qualifying times and scores as motivation for continued improvement through the spring.
