Types of Registration Scams Targeting TUT Students
The University experiences an annual increase in reported fraud complaints, notably through its Ethics Hotline. according to Dr. Emily Mabote, Acting Deputy vice-Chancellor Digital Transformation, these scams aim to exploit students and parents during a vulnerable time.
While specific scam tactics vary, common schemes include fraudulent requests for registration fees via untraceable methods, offers of guaranteed admission for a fee, and phishing attempts to steal personal details. TUT advises students to only use official university channels for all transactions and communications.
