Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy – Switzerland secured the men’s curling bronze medal at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, delivering a dominant 9-1 victory over Norway on Friday, February 20th. The win marked Switzerland’s fifth Olympic medal in curling and their first since the PyeongChang Games in 2018.

The Swiss team responded emphatically after a semi-final defeat to Great Britain, showcasing a “clinical” performance, according to reports from the Games. The victory secures a place on the podium for the Swiss, capping off a strong showing in the men’s curling tournament.

The 2026 Winter Olympics curling competitions, held at the Cortina Olympic Stadium in Cortina d’Ampezzo, featured three events: men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles. A total of 112 competitors from 14 nations participated, with the Games running from February 4th to February 22nd. This marked the ninth time curling has been included in the Olympic program.

While the Swiss celebrated bronze, the competition saw Canada claim gold in the men’s event, with Great Britain taking silver. In the women’s tournament, Sweden emerged victorious, followed by Switzerland with silver, and Canada earning the bronze. The mixed doubles event saw Sweden secure gold, the United States taking silver, and Italy claiming the bronze medal on home ice.

Italy automatically qualified a team for each curling event as the host nation. Qualification for the remaining teams was determined by the top eight ranked National Olympic Committees (NOCs) based on Olympic Qualification Points earned at the 2024 and 2025 World Championships. Should Italy have finished within the top eight in any discipline, only the next seven highest-ranked NOCs would have qualified.

The Games also saw some controversy, with the Israeli four-man bobsleigh team disqualified on Sunday, February 21st, after allegedly feigning illness to allow a substitute athlete to compete – a clear violation of Olympic regulations. This incident highlights the strict adherence to rules and regulations governing the Olympic Winter Games.

Elsewhere, Team Canada enjoyed a successful day on February 21st, with Laurent Dubreuil winning gold in speed skating and the women’s relay team securing a bronze medal. The Canadian men’s hockey team also advanced to the semi-finals after a thrilling overtime victory.

The women’s curling final, contested between Sweden and Switzerland, saw Sweden claim the gold medal. The Swiss team, despite the loss in the final, secured a silver medal, adding to their bronze in the men’s event. The Arau Curling Club, representing Switzerland, competed in the women’s final, with the competition beginning at 11:05 local time.

The mixed doubles curling event concluded with Sweden taking the gold, the United States earning silver, and Italy celebrating a bronze medal in front of their home crowd. The Wranå siblings from Sweden secured the gold in the mixed doubles event, defeating the American duo of Thiesse and Dropkin. Italy’s Constantini and Mosaner rounded out the podium with a bronze medal.

The CC3C Genève curling club also experienced a bittersweet moment, securing a bronze medal but acknowledging a sense of disappointment at not reaching the final. The team’s performance underscored the high level of competition throughout the curling events at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.

With the curling competitions now concluded, the focus shifts to other events at the Games. The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics continue to deliver thrilling moments and showcase the world’s top winter athletes. The Games are scheduled to conclude on February 22nd, leaving a lasting legacy of sporting excellence and international camaraderie.
