Wojcicki’s TTAM Wins Bid for 23andMe, Genetic Testing Role Secured
Updated June 14, 2025
Anne Wojcicki, co-founder and former CEO, is set to regain control of 23andMe. Her new nonprofit, TTAM Research Institute, successfully bid $305 million for substantially all of 23andMe’s assets, including its Personal Genome Service, Research Services, and telehealth subsidiary Lemonaid Health. This outcome follows 23andMe’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in March.
TTAM’s winning bid surpassed an earlier offer of $256 million from Regeneron Pharmaceuticals. Wojcicki then pushed to reopen the auction. TTAM is an acronym derived from the first letters of 23andMe.
The genetic testing company, once valued at $6 billion after going public in 2021, struggled with revenue generation and research progress. A 2023 data breach compromised the information of nearly 7 million customers, further compounding its challenges.
23andMe gained popularity offering at-home DNA kits, providing insights into ancestry and genetic predispositions.
“I am thrilled that TTAM Research Institute will be able to continue the mission of 23andMe to help people access, understand and benefit from the human genome,” Wojcicki said.
What’s next
The acquisition by TTAM Research Institute awaits approval from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Missouri.
