Wojcicki’s TTAM Wins Bid for 23andMe,‌ Genetic Testing Role Secured

 ‍

Anne Wojcicki, co-founder and former⁢ CEO, is set to regain‌ control of 23andMe. Her ‍new⁣ nonprofit, ⁤TTAM Research Institute, successfully bid $305 million for substantially all of 23andMe’s ⁢assets, including its Personal Genome Service, Research Services, and telehealth subsidiary Lemonaid Health. This outcome follows 23andMe’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in ⁤March.

TTAM’s winning bid surpassed an earlier offer of $256 million from Regeneron Pharmaceuticals. Wojcicki then pushed to ‌reopen the auction. ⁣TTAM is an acronym derived ⁤from‍ the first letters of ⁢23andMe.

The genetic testing company,‌ once valued at‍ $6 billion after going‌ public‌ in 2021, struggled ‍with revenue generation and research progress. A 2023 data breach compromised the ⁣information of nearly 7 million customers, further compounding its challenges.

23andMe gained popularity offering at-home ⁣DNA kits, providing insights into ancestry and genetic predispositions.

⁢ “I am thrilled that TTAM Research Institute will be able to continue the mission‌ of 23andMe to help people access, understand and benefit ⁤from‌ the human⁢ genome,” Wojcicki said.
