MONTREAL (AP) — The 23rd edition of the Summits of Animated Cinema will kick off with the screening of “Rock Bottom,” organizers announced today. The festival,a celebration of animated film,is scheduled to run from May 26-31,2025,at the Quebec Cinematheque.
Opening Night film: “Rock Bottom”
Directed by Spanish filmmaker María Trénor, “Rock Bottom” recently garnered Trénor the Director of the Year award at Cartoon Movie in Bordeaux. The film will make its north American debut on Monday, May 26, launching the festival.
A Psychedelic Journey into Music and Art
“Rock Bottom,” an official selection at the Annecy 2024 festival, tells a turbulent love story inspired by the life and work of British rocker Robert Wyatt. The animated feature plunges viewers into the creative and revolutionary atmosphere of the early 1970s post-hippie era. About María Trénor
María Trénor is an accomplished director and producer of several animated short films.Her film,”Exlibris,” received a Goya nomination for best animated short film in 2011. In addition to her filmmaking,Trénor is a professor of audiovisual media at the Valencia art and design school and has contributed to numerous cinema and animation publications in Spain.

Marco du Blois, artistic director of the festival, stated that “Rock Bottom celebrates the career of a legendary rocker while making us experience an experience of sounds, colors and creative fever… Thanks to this multicolored film, the summits will open up to a psychedelic note that will inspire festival -goers.”
