Medan,Indonesia ⁢ – Twenty-five members of an Army battalion in ‍Medan,North​ Sumatra,have been ⁢named as suspects in the‌ alleged ‍assault‌ on Selamat village in Deli Serdang regency ​last⁤ November. The‍ declaration comes after a month-long investigation by the Bukit Barisan Military ⁣Command’s military police.

“Of the ‌50 personnel we interrogated, we’ve named ​half of them as suspects,” ‍Lt. Gen.Mochammad Hasan, Bukit Barisan Military command chief, said during a press⁣ briefing on Tuesday.

The military police will now ⁤hand over ⁢the ⁣case to Indonesian Military (TNI) prosecutors, who will prepare indictments against the suspects for‍ submission to a‌ military tribunal.

Lt. Gen. Hasan emphasized that the military police had considered ‍recommendations from⁤ the ‍national Commission on Human Rights​ (Komnas HAM) ​and the Witness and Victim Protection agency (LPSK) during their investigation.

“The investigation is‌ still ongoing as of today.The military ​police will ⁢make sure that the prosecution is completed,” ⁢he said.

Lt. Gen. Hasan also offered an apology on behalf of the​ TNI to the people, notably the victims, for ⁣the assault on Selamat village.
