The film’s synopsis describes a world nearly three decades after the rage virus outbreak. Survivors live on a fortified island, but a mission to the mainland uncovers new dangers and horrors.
Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes star in the film. cillian Murphy, who starred in “28 Days Later,” does not appear in this installment.
“It’s been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected,” according to a synopsis. “When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.”
“28 Weeks Later,” the second film in the series, did not receive the same critical acclaim as the original or the new sequel.
With a $75 million budget, “28 Years Later” is expected to be a box office success. The original “28 Days Later” was made for just $8 million.
