Crash Details Near the University of Minnesota
The collision occurred at approximately 4:12 a.m. near the intersection of Southeast Fourth Street and Interstate 35W, according to the Minneapolis Police Department. A tractor-trailer exiting southbound I-35W and crossing Fourth Street S.E. was struck by a westbound Hyundai Elantra carrying seven occupants. Local reporting notes that the crash happened in the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood, just west of the university campus and the city’s Dinkytown district. Investigators believe the speed of the stolen Hyundai Elantra contributed to the crash, per police statements. The impact left the car wedged underneath the tractor-trailer, coming to a final stop on Ninth Avenue S.E. between Fourth Street S.E. and University Avenue.
Casualties and Hospitalizations
Emergency responders arrived to find all seven occupants trapped inside the wreckage. Two males in the front seats and one female in the back seat of the car were pronounced dead at the scene, according to police officials. Those hospitalized include two 18-year-old men, a 17-year-old girl, and a 17-year-old boy. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured in the collision.

The southbound I-35W exit ramp to Fourth Street alongside Ninth Avenue S.E. was closed for several hours following the incident.
