Christian Oh, a 30-year-old investment director and property agent, has expanded his real estate holdings with the acquisition of an HDB coffeeshop in Ang Mo Kio. The property, located at Block 421 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10, consists of 10 stalls and operates under the name Food Haus.
The acquisition marks a strategic shift for Oh, who noted that many Singaporean property investors in their 30s typically focus on the private residential market. While Oh has previously owned individual stalls in other neighborhoods, this purchase represents his first time owning an entire HDB coffeeshop.
The investment is part of a larger portfolio that now includes 13 properties. Oh began his investment activity in 2020 with the purchase of a residential property, later diversifying into industrial properties before entering the commercial coffeeshop niche.
Food Haus is positioned as Ang Mo Kio’s first Instagram-worthy
kopitiam. The establishment claims to be the first and only coffeeshop in Singapore to serve black truffle roast duck.
The 10-stall facility offers a diverse range of Asian cuisines, including:
- Thai mookata
- Chinese cai fan
- Malay cuisine
- Indian cuisine
- Authentic Thai cuisine
- Ban noodle
- Mala
- Chongqing grilled fish
Oh facilitates his real estate transactions through JNA Real Estate, where he serves as an investment director and property agent. The deal for the Ang Mo Kio coffeeshop was processed through the firm.
Despite the perception of coffeeshops as high-yielding assets, Oh has stated that significant work is required to realize those returns from a million-dollar capital investment.
