343 Pounds of Marijuana Seized in Delaware County, Pennsylvania
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seized over 340 pounds of marijuana at an international shipping facility in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. This marijuana was destined for the United Kingdom.
The seizures took place in two separate incidents. The first seizure involved 132 pounds and 4 ounces found in 25 containers. The second seizure occurred days later, where authorities confiscated 210 pounds and 12 ounces from 52 containers, plus 2 pounds and 5 ounces of hashish. In total, the seizures have an estimated street value of $1.5 million.
While 24 states in the U.S. have legalized recreational marijuana, it remains illegal federally. Federal law prohibits moving marijuana across state lines or exporting it.
Cleatus Hunt, the CBP’s area port director, stated that these seizures highlight the ongoing issues with illicit drug exports. Hunt emphasized that consumers globally can obtain many products, even if those products violate laws in their nations.
