20th Century Studios’ Alien: Romulus has officially transitioned to streaming, becoming available on Hulu on May 21, 2026. The film’s arrival on the platform comes nearly two years after its initial theatrical release in 2024.
As the second-highest-grossing installment in the Alien franchise, the film earned $350 million at the box office during its first theatrical run. In addition to its commercial success, the movie holds a Certified Fresh score of 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, ranking it as the third-highest-rated entry in the long-running series.
Plot and Production
The film is described as a sci-fi horror-thriller designed to return the franchise to its original roots. The narrative follows a group of young colonizers who encounter the universe’s most relentless and deadly life form while scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station.

Fede Álvarez served as the director and executive producer and he co-wrote the screenplay with Rodo Sayagues. The production was led by franchise creator Ridley Scott, alongside producers Michael Pruss and Walter Hill. Additional executive production duties were handled by Tom Moran, Elizabeth Cantillon, and Brent O’Connor.

Future of the Franchise
While Alien: Romulus now reaches streaming audiences, the studio is reportedly looking toward the future of the series. Early development has begun on a new sequel, with Fede Álvarez currently writing the script, although 20th Century Studios has not yet released official updates regarding the project.
Beyond the film series, the franchise is expanding into television. A new season of FX’s Alien: Earth is expected to begin filming in the near future.
