Geneva is preparing for the 47th Escalade Race, anticipating nearly 60,000 participants over the weekend in the Old Town. The event, a cornerstone of the city’s sporting calendar, will feature a diverse range of races-from popular runs to elite competitions-and will be broadcast live for over 14 hours by Léman Bleu television.
This year’s race has broken participation records, with 59,712 registered runners ready to navigate the historic cobblestone streets. Over 40 starting waves are scheduled throughout the weekend along Rue de la Croix-rouge.
Elite Competition: Gressier vs. Lobalu
Saturday’s events will focus on the popular races, beginning with the 2-tower course and culminating with the challenging 3-tower run. The day will also showcase promising young athletes in the junior races, followed by the traditional Marmite and Walking event from Veyrier.
Sunday will see children’s races fill the city streets before the elite athletes take centre stage.Defending women’s champion diane van Es is favored to win again. The men’s race is highly anticipated, featuring a rematch between French 10,000m world champion Jimmy Gressier and Swiss European champion Dominic lobalu.
