A consortium including the investment arm of the San Francisco 49ers has finalized its acquisition of Rangers FC, a Scottish football club. The Rangers FC takeover sees private healthcare executive Andrew Cavenagh stepping in as chairman of the Scottish Premiership team.
Paraag Marathe, current chairman of Leeds United, will take on the role of vice-chairman. Latham & Watkins advised on the acquisition, with Doug Abernethy, Ed Barnett, and Patrick mitchell playing key roles.
The group now controls 51% of the Ibrox club. The new ownership is expected to bring fresh investment and strategic direction to the historic Glasgow side.
The 49ers consortium’s Rangers FC takeover is expected to bolster the club’s financial position and competitive edge.
The consortium has pledged a £20 million investment into Rangers this summer. Industry observers suggest the 49ers Enterprises group was drawn to Rangers because of its storied past and dedicated fan base.
