Jane Woodhead’s Inspiring Bodybuilding Journey

Jane Woodhead, a 53-year-old weightlifting enthusiast, represents Great Britain in an international bodybuilding competition. She competes in the over 45s bikini category at the World Amateur Body Building Championships in Venice.

Jane began training seriously just over a year ago. She was crowned British bikini champion in the over 50s category at the UK Ultimate Physiques British Championships. “I never wake up and think, ‘I don’t want to go to the gym today.’ I absolutely love it,” Jane said.

Her fitness journey started in childhood as a dancer. After not exercising much in her 20s, she returned to the gym in the 90s, following her father’s death. Jane began participating in sponsored runs for leukaemia research. Through this experience, she discovered the benefits of weightlifting for changing her physique.

She started working with a personal trainer who encouraged her to try bikini bodybuilding. Jane embraced the challenge, saying, “I never thought I’d end up on a stage. I had no expectation that I would get this far.”

Balancing her full-time job as a PR director with her training requires careful planning. Jane wakes up at 4:30 AM for training sessions. When traveling, she finds 24-hour gyms to maintain her routine.

Her diet consists of five to seven meals each day, measured for carbohydrates, protein, and fat. She prepares her meals in advance and often brings them with her in a portable fridge.

Jane enjoys bodybuilding despite sacrificing meals out with family and friends. Her diet includes chicken, fish, asparagus, rice, and porridge oats, with no chocolates or cakes. She feels the sacrifices are worth it, as bodybuilding fuels her passion.

“It massively helps with self-confidence,” Jane stated. “I want to bring the best version of me.”
