The “Trump Card,” a controversial initiative promising a route to US citizenship for wealthy foreigners, is now accepting registrations. Former President Donald Trump announced the program, touting it as a premium option for obtaining citizenship with a $5 million price tag.
The official website, TrumpCard.gov,showcases a gold-colored card featuring Trump’s image and signature. The submission form collects basic details, including name, email, region of origin, and whether the applicant is applying as an individual or a business. Eight regions are listed: Europe, Asia (including the Middle East), north America, Oceania, Central America, South America, the Caribbean and Africa.
Truth Social post announcing the Trump Card” width=”600″>Trump promoted the Trump Card on his Truth Social platform, stating, “For five million $DOLLARS, The Trump Card is coming! Thousands have been calling and asking how they can sign up to ride a stunning road in gaining access to the greatest country and market anywhere in the world.” He added that the waiting list is now open.
While Trump claims the card offers a “path to citizenship,” he clarified that it does not guarantee immediate entry or naturalization. He likened it to a “green card but at a higher level of sophistication.” The trump management maintains that the card does not require congressional approval because it does not directly grant citizenship.
The Trump Card was initially proposed as a replacement for the EB-5 investor visa program, which grants green cards to foreigners investing between $800,000 and $1.05 million in US job-creating projects. The EB-5 program has faced issues with backlogs and fraud allegations.
“wealthy people will be coming into our country by buying this card. They’ll be wealthy, and they’ll be successful, and they’ll be spending a lot of money, and paying a lot of taxes and employing a lot of people.”
A key selling point of the Trump Card is its potential tax benefits. Trump suggested that cardholders would only be taxed on their US earnings, unlike green card holders taxed on worldwide income. This could attract high-net-worth individuals who have avoided relocating to the US due to its global tax obligations.
Unlike the EB-5 visa program, the Trump Card does not appear to require applicants to create US-based jobs or launch businesses. howard Lutnick, US commerce secretary, claimed that 1,000 cards were sold in a single day, despite the program’s unofficial launch. Lutnick estimates that approximately 37 million people worldwide could afford the Trump Card.
What’s next
Further details about the Trump Card program are expected to be released by the White house soon, according to reports. The program’s long-term impact on US immigration and investment remains to be seen.
