The Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Wing has arrested six individuals following the illegal online leak of Jana Nayagan
, an upcoming political action drama starring Thalapathy Vijay. The arrests follow a formal complaint lodged by the film’s production house, KVN Productions, after high-definition clips and full versions of the movie began circulating on social media and various digital platforms ahead of its theatrical release.
The leak occurred during a period of existing tension for the production, as the film had already faced delays due to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) not clearing the project in time. The subsequent breach involving HD prints sent shockwaves through the film industry, prompting immediate legal action by the producers to protect their intellectual property.
Law Enforcement and Legal Action
According to reports, the Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Wing registered a case against the accused under several legal frameworks. These include the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the IT Act, the Copyright Act, and the Cinematograph Act. The six arrested individuals are currently in judicial custody.
Investigators revealed that the suspects utilized cloud storage and shared drive links to distribute the movie illegally. In addition to the arrests, authorities have successfully taken down more than 300 pirated links. Special teams were established to track these links, identify the original uploaders, and analyze digital evidence recovered from the suspects.
The legal team representing KVN Productions, led by Vijayan Subhramanium, has issued a stern warning to the public. Subhramanium utilized the social media platform X to notify the public that anyone involved in downloading, forwarding, or sharing the leaked content will be traced and subjected to immediate criminal prosecution.
The Cyber Crime Department has already arrested six persons in connection with the illegal circulation of leaked content from #Jana Nayagan. Any person downloading, forwarding, sharing or circulating leaked scenes in any form through social media or digital platforms will be traced and subjected to immediate criminal prosecution. Strict action will follow without exception.

Ongoing Monitoring and Industry Impact
Authorities continue to monitor websites, file-sharing applications, and social media platforms to prevent further leaks of the film. The makers of Jana Nayagan
have urged fans and the general public to delete any illegal links immediately to avoid legal repercussions.
The incident has sparked wider concerns within the entertainment industry regarding the persistence of digital piracy. KVN Productions LLP, as the exclusive copyright owners of the cinematograph film, emphasized that they will continue to take rigorous legal action against those infringing on their rights.
The investigation remains active as the Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Wing works to dismantle the broader piracy network responsible for the breach and to identify any additional accomplices involved in the illegal distribution of the film.
