Meet Anil Katyal: The Impostor Who Conned Officials

A 69-year-old man named Anil Katyal has been arrested for impersonating a retired IPS officer. This scheme allowed him to manipulate government officers and earn substantial amounts of money.

Background on Anil Katyal

Anil Katyal lives in Greater Kailash-1, New Delhi. He claims to be a retired IPS officer from the 1979 batch and boasts a background that includes key roles in law enforcement and the Union Home Ministry. Despite being a St Stephen’s College alumnus and having experience as a corporate executive at companies like Hindustan Lever and Vodafone, he resorted to deception.

Authorities are puzzled as to why someone with a stable financial background would engage in such criminal activities. Investigators are delving into his financial records to uncover the extent of his actions.

How He Deceived Officials

Katyal manipulated his connections at St Stephen’s College and leveraged his corporate relationships to deceive others. He claimed to be a college senior of the External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, in order to influence government officials. This strategy helped him carry out multiple cons, including attempts to intervene in a fraud case involving a billionaire.

The Arrest

Katyal’s downfall began when he attempted to assist his friend, Vinod Kapoor, who was facing fraud charges. Presenting himself as an IPS officer, he tried to intimidate police officials. His suspicious behavior raised alarms, particularly when he requested a photograph with the police commissioner. This prompted officers to verify his claims, revealing that he was not indeed an IPS officer.

Police arrested both Katyal and Kapoor for cheating and obstructing justice. After his arrest, Katyal gave vague responses to questions, further raising doubts about his character.

Anil Katyal’s case serves as a warning against impostors who misuse authority for personal gain. Authorities continue to investigate the full extent of his deception.
