Mahmoud Ibrahim Al-Khatib was born on October 30, 1954, in a small Egyptian village in the center of Sinbilawin, Dakahlia Governorate, and then he moved to Cairo with his family and joined Al-Nasr Club at the age of fifteen. Began, especially when participating in school leagues with schools.

After that, Al-Khatib was promoted to the first team to play his first official match against Plastic Club on October 15, 1972 and he scored his first goal in the same match, then the goals continued in the league until his retirement reached 108 goals in the league championship, Which he did in 199 matches playing a beautiful string of balls in various Egyptian and African stadiums over 17 years.

During 16 years in the Al-Ahly club jersey, Mahmoud Al-Khatib won 10 league titles and 5 Egypt Cup titles, scoring 37 goals in 49 matches, a record that has yet to be surpassed.

Al-Khatib won the African Champions Club Cup with Al-Ahly in 1982 and 1987 and the African Cup Winners’ Cup in 1984, 1985 and 1986.

For the Egyptian national team, Mahmoud Al-Khatib made his first appearance with the Pharaohs in 1974. He participated in the 1980 and 1984 Olympic Games with the Egyptian national team and won the African Cup of Nations in 1986.
