76th Berlin Film Festival Opens Tonight | Tom Garus, ARD Berlin 2026

76th Berlin International Film Festival Opens with “No Good Men”

– The 76th Berlin International Film Festival commenced this evening at the Berlinale Palast with the world premiere of “No Good Men,” a new film by Afghan director Shahrbanoo Sadat.

The festival, running from to , will showcase 22 films in the Competition section, representing a diverse range of cinematic talent from around the globe. Festival Director Tricia Tuttle and Jury President Wim Wenders officially launched the event with a festive opening ceremony, attended by numerous guests.

The opening night marked the beginning of a busy schedule for the festival, which also includes the European Film Market (EFM) kicking off with a preview on the afternoon of and officially running from to . The Berlinale Co-Production Market will follow from to , and Berlinale Talents will take place from to .

Beyond the screenings and market events, the Berlinale HUB, located next to the Berlinale Palast, will serve as a central meeting point for the public and film industry professionals. From to , the HUB will host a variety of event formats designed to foster exchange and collaboration.

This year’s festival features “Berlinale Star Portraits,” large-format images of actors and filmmakers adorning the walls of the Berlinale Palast, signed by the stars themselves before their gala premieres. A press conference with the International Jury, moderated by Tricia Tuttle, is now available on demand.

The festival program is curated into collections based on genre, interest, and format, offering audiences different perspectives on the films presented. A selection of film posters from this year’s program is also available for viewing, alongside trailers and excerpts from all the films in the 76th Berlinale.

Tuttle, who also directed the 2025 edition of the festival, expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming event, stating, “After the great success of this year’s anniversary edition, we are now starting to plan for 2026. We look forward to once again celebrating cinema with the film industry and audiences and to being a platform for the global film industry.”

The Competition section, in particular, highlights the work of filmmakers “at the top of their craft,” according to festival organizers. The 22 films selected represent the breadth of contemporary cinema and demonstrate artistic excellence.
