80% Savings Unlocked: Khara Inc. Revolutionizes Data Management with Wasabi Hot Cloud Storage

September 13, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor Entertainment

Khara Inc. Selects Wasabi as Cloud Storage Provider

BOSTON & TOKYO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Hot Cloud Storage ⁢Wasabi Technologies and Khara Inc., the Japan-based film production company‌ behind the hit anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion, today announced that it has ‌selected Wasabi as its cloud storage provider to migrate its business ‌operations and 500 TB of archived data ⁤from on-premises to the cloud. Wasabi’s⁤ low-cost,⁢ high-performance cloud storage service will reduce Khara’s management‍ and operating costs by approximately 80%, allowing the company’s systems department to focus on more important system planning and ⁢management tasks.

“One of the main benefits of Wasabi cloud storage is that it frees us from frequent ‌drive failures and hardware replacements, allowing us to focus on system ⁢management,” said Kazuki Misawa, Chief System Engineer at Khara, Inc. “Recurring hardware‍ failures increase the risk of⁢ losing irreplaceable⁢ data, and the fear of this happening keeps me up at night‍ because the large amount of data stored in each drive makes replacement a nerve-wracking chore, and replacing and rebuilding the data on a single disk typically takes⁢ one to two weeks. With Wasabi’s cloud storage service, infrastructure costs will be comparable to existing systems, while management‌ and operating costs will be reduced‌ by ⁢approximately 80%. It is important that we can focus on core system management tasks instead of having to ⁣deal with drive ⁢failures ⁣and hardware upgrades.”

Khara has amassed a massive archive of image ⁤and video files over its 18-year history, including episodes‌ of‍ the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime and other productions. The files in its 500 TB archive form⁤ the company’s intellectual ⁤property assets, and each new production adds more data to its archive. Until recently, these data files⁣ were stored locally. To avoid hardware failures,⁤ Khara turned ⁤to Wasabi to keep its data safe and control costs.

“We are excited to work with Khara’s innovative team to help⁢ ensure ⁣their data is secure and eliminate the hassles associated ⁣with replacing ⁤and rebuilding on-premises solutions,” said Aki Wakimoto, Wasabi’s‌ Country Manager for Japan. “Wasabi ⁢will ‌enable Khara’s IT team to work more efficiently and help ⁤drive creative ideation without the worry of data loss.”

Wasabi⁤ hot cloud storage is secure, easy to use, and affordable, making it the storage solution of choice for organizations across industries around the world. Unlike other cloud storage ⁣providers, Wasabi never charges users to access their data and eliminates ‌fees associated with egress and API requests. Archiving ⁤data to Wasabi cloud storage protects Khara’s assets ⁢and frees its IT⁢ team from hardware operation‍ and management-related issues it previously faced ‍with a predictable and cost-effective cloud storage solution. Wasabi high-performance cloud storage also improves Khara’s scalability, as the archived data⁣ can now be accessed from any of Khara’s ⁤multiple production sites.
