The fatal confrontation began as a disagreement over the use of sunloungers on the shoreline. The disagreement quickly intensified into a physical fight that drew in other individuals on the crowded beach. One eyewitness told the Kathimerini newspaper that the scene turned so chaotic that screaming from the altercation could be heard from the opposite end of the beach.
Emergency Response and Collapse
During the height of the violence, the 82-year-old man collapsed. Bystanders and emergency responders administered CPR and used a defibrillator on the victim before an ambulance arrived to transport him to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Greek authorities have detained the 76-year-old man following the brawl. A 21-year-old woman accompanying the younger man was also taken into custody by police, though she was later released.
