86-Year-Old Man Detained After Shocking Incident in Istanbul

Police in Istanbul have detained an 86-year-old man after a video showing him engaging in lewd behavior toward a woman at a bus stop in the Maltepe district went viral on social media.

The incident occurred when the suspect began performing inappropriate actions, specifically self-satisfaction, while looking at a young woman waiting at a public transport stop. According to witness accounts, the man continued the behavior despite the presence of other people in the vicinity.

Bystanders recorded the encounter using mobile phone cameras, and the resulting footage was quickly shared across various social media platforms. The video sparked widespread public outrage, leading many users to call upon law enforcement to identify the suspect with the phrase Bulun bu sapığı (Find this pervert).

While many condemned the man’s actions, some social media users criticized the individuals who filmed the incident, questioning why they did not intervene to stop the behavior as it was happening.

Following the surge of reports and the distribution of the video, police teams identified the suspect and took him into custody on May 3, 2026.

After completing police procedures, the 86-year-old suspect was referred to the courthouse. He faces charges of teşhircilik (indecent exposure), and his legal process is currently ongoing.
