[부산=뉴시스]Reporter Baek Jae-hyeon = The ‘8th Busan Intercity Film Festival’, which introduces regional films from various cities at home and abroad and UNESCO-designated Creative Cities of Film, will be held from the 30th to September 1st at the Busan Cinema Center Cinematheque and Musai Theater.

Hosted and organized by the Busan Independent Film Association and sponsored by the city of Busan, this year’s film festival will screen 34 films from 11 cities, including the newly joined Mumbai, India. Participating cities include Busan, Galway (Ireland), Gdynia (Poland), Valladolid (Spain), Bitola (Macedonia), Santos (Brazil), Yamagata/Fukuoka (Japan), Lodz (Poland), Mumbai (India), and Adiyaman (Turkey).

The film festival supports new works by talented creators, and five new short films produced through this project will be presented for the first time at the festival’s residency film screening.

The Busan section will feature three noteworthy films. The Project Indie Busan selections and the opening film of the 25th Busan Independent Film Festival, “What Role Do You Want to Play, Actor?” (Park Chun-hyun), “It’s Kimbap!” (Lee Kang-wook), and “Flesh Eats Flesh” (Jeon So-young), winner of the Busan Independent Film Festival Grand Prize and Audience Jury Award in the same year, will be screened, and a post-screening discussion with the audience is planned.

Online ticket sales for the film festival will begin at noon on the 30th at the Film Archive and Musai Theater websites. Detailed program information, schedules, and more information about the film festival can be found on the Busan Independent Film Association website and official social media.

Shim Jae-min, Director of Busan’s Culture and Sports Bureau, said, “This year is even more meaningful as Busan has been selected as the ‘UNESCO Creative Cities Network Film Chair City.’ I hope you will continue to enjoy the various works of the UNESCO Creative Cities of Film, and we will work harder to ensure that various films discover new value through Busan.”
