Security Concerns in Sarajevo Amidst Migrant Conflict
The recent murder of a migrant in the Stupa conflict has reignited concerns about security in Sarajevo. A series of incidents, including the shooting in Nevesinje, the drowning of migrants in the Drina river, frequent clashes on the streets of Sarajevo, and the presence of drugs in camps, have prompted authorities to take action.
Žarko Laketa, director of the Service of Affairs with Foreigners, emphasized the importance of securing the state border. Following the latest incident, the service conducted checks in its databases and identified the victim as an Afghan citizen registered at the Lipa Temporary Reception Centre.
Laketa stressed the need for cooperation among all security structures within Bosnia and Herzegovina. He highlighted the Service’s efforts to address the issue, including operational steps taken in Blažuj and Lipa in collaboration with other security agencies.
A specific group of Afghan migrants involved in organized crime has been identified as a key concern. These individuals are suspected of facilitating the transfer of migrants from Serbia to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, and are believed to be linked to recent incidents.
