“Oh, absolutely. That’s totally in the works and in talks. So hopefully that’s happening soon. I’m gonna see Xolo [Mariduena] soon. We’re going to do a Comic-Con together.”
Director Confirms Ongoing conversations
Angel Manuel Soto, director of the original Blue Beetle film, confirmed conversations are happening regarding the character’s future within the DCU. The Direct reported Soto’s statement, noting James Gunn has publicly expressed his desire to include Blue beetle in the DCU.
“Yeah, there have been conversations, and that’s all I can say. I mean, that’s fair. Conversations have been happening, and there’s definitely… James [Gunn] has been very vocal about keeping Blue Beetle in the DCU. So good things are coming for jaime Reyes and his family.”
Animated Series in Development
In mid-2024, an animated Blue Beetle series was announced. Miguel Puga (“The Casagrandes”) is serving as showrunner, with Cristian Martinez as writer. Both Soto and Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer are producing the series. No release date has been announced as of January 18, 2026.
